Projector Rental in Los Angeles for Events and Large Venues
GeoEvent rents high-lumen projectors, lenses, screens and the processing and crew that go with them, for corporate general sessions, conferences, weddings, concerts, film screenings, trade shows and projection mapping. Most projector questions come down to three numbers: how big the image needs to be, how much light is in the room, and how far the projector sits from the screen. Get those right and everything else follows. The sections below explain how we work them out.
How many lumens do you actually need?
Lumens measure the projector’s light output. The right figure depends far more on ambient light and image size than on the size of the audience.
- 5,000 to 7,000 lumens — breakout rooms, boardrooms and small meeting spaces with the lights down and an image up to around 10ft wide.
- 10,000 to 15,000 lumens — hotel ballrooms and conference general sessions, where house lighting has to stay up enough for people to take notes.
- 20,000 to 30,000 lumens — large ballrooms, big screens, and rooms with windows or bright stage lighting.
- 40,000 lumens and up — arena-scale images, long throws, outdoor night events and projection mapping onto buildings.
The honest version: it is almost always the ambient light that beats you, not the projector. A 20,000-lumen unit in a room you cannot darken will still look weaker than a 7,000-lumen unit in a blacked-out one. If you cannot control the light, tell us early, because the answer may be an LED wall rather than a bigger projector.
Projection or LED wall?
This is worth settling before anything else, because it changes the whole budget. We rent both and have no preference beyond wanting your event to look right.
Choose projection for very large images in rooms you can darken, for unusually wide or tall aspect ratios, for curved and irregular surfaces, for projection mapping, and when you want the biggest possible image for the money.
Choose an LED wall for daylight, outdoors, rooms with windows or high house light, and anywhere the screen must stay readable with the lights up. In Los Angeles daytime, particularly outdoors, LED is generally the only reliable option.
Screens, lenses and throw distance
The lens determines how far the projector must sit from the screen to fill it. A short-throw lens puts the projector close, which helps in shallow rooms and reduces the chance of presenters walking through the beam; a long-throw lens lets you rig at the back of a ballroom or on a rear truss. Tell us the room depth and we will specify the lens — it is the detail most often missed when people order projectors themselves.
On screens, we stock:
- Fast-fold screens with front and rear projection surfaces and dress kits, from around 6ft to 40ft wide. The standard choice for corporate and conference work.
- Tripod and portable screens for small meetings and breakouts.
- Inflatable and outdoor screens for open-air cinema, festivals and backyard events.
- Rear projection setups, which keep the projector and its light path behind the screen and out of the presenter’s way. They need depth behind the screen, so raise it while the floor plan is still movable.
Projection mapping in Los Angeles
Projection mapping mounts an image to a physical object — a building facade, a stage set, a car, a product reveal — so the projected content follows the shape rather than sitting flat on it. We supply the projectors, the lenses, the media servers and the technicians for mapped installations across Los Angeles.
Two things determine whether a mapping project is straightforward or difficult. The first is surface: pale, matte and relatively flat maps well; dark, glossy or heavily textured surfaces absorb light and need far more of it. The second is content, which has to be built to the specific geometry of the object and cannot be repurposed from a standard video. Bring us in before the content is made and the whole thing gets cheaper and better.

Delivery, setup and crew
Projectors are heavier, more fragile and more fiddly to align than most people expect, and a large fast-fold screen is a two-person build. Every booking can include delivery, build, operation and strike, and for anything with a live audience we recommend it.
A technician does more than switch it on: they set the lens and geometry, sort the signal path from whatever is presenting, manage switching between laptops and playback, and fix a lost signal in the minutes before doors. Projector rental questions
Can I rent a projector and screen together?
Yes, and it is the usual booking. Quoting them together also means we can check the lens actually suits the screen size and room depth rather than leaving you to discover it on site.
Do you deliver and set up, or is it collection only?
Both are possible. Small units can be collected; anything involving a large screen, rigging or a live audience we would rather deliver and build.
Can I project outdoors during the day?
Realistically, no. Daylight defeats projection at any lumen count worth paying for. For daytime outdoor work you want an LED wall.
What do I need for an outdoor movie night?
A screen sized to your audience, a projector matched to it, sound, power, and a plan for wind. Full darkness makes an enormous difference — an hour after sunset looks dramatically better than at dusk.
How far in advance should I book?
Large-format projectors and big fast-fold screens are finite and move quickly in peak season. Talk to us early for anything above about 20,000 lumens or 20ft wide.
