Lighting is the part of an event people notice without being able to name. Done well it makes a room feel considered and a stage feel like an occasion; done badly it makes both look flat. The sections below cover the decisions that actually change the result.
What lighting rental covers
Event and ambient lighting
Wireless battery uplights along walls and architecture, pin spots on tables and centrepieces, colour washes to change a room’s mood between dinner and dancing, and gobo projection for logos and patterns. Battery fixtures matter more than they sound: they need no cable runs, which keeps venues happy and removes the tripping hazards that cable ramps otherwise create.
Stage and concert lighting
Moving-head spots and washes, LED PAR and profile fixtures, blinders, strobes and beam effects, on truss with ground support or flown. Enough to light a band properly, cover a stage for camera, and give a show its dynamics.
Theatrical and conference lighting
Front light that makes presenters look right on camera, ellipsoidal profiles for clean key light and precise shuttering, and colour temperature matched to whatever the screens and cameras need.
Outdoor event lighting
IP-rated fixtures for exposed sites, festoon and architectural washes, and power distribution for locations with no house supply.
Lighting control
Consoles from simple DMX desks up to grandMA and comparable systems, with wireless DMX where cable runs are impractical, plus programming time if the show needs cues rather than states.
How much lighting does an event need?
A rough guide, though the room usually adjusts it:
- Wedding or private party, up to 200 guests — 12 to 24 uplights, pin spots for tables, and a small dance-floor package.
- Corporate general session — front light for the stage, a wash for the set or backdrop, uplighting for the room, and colour matched to the brand.
- Concert or band, small to mid-size venue — a truss of moving heads and washes with front light and control, run by an operator.
- Festival or large outdoor stage — ground support or a roof, IP-rated fixtures, distribution, and a designer involved before the day.
The most common mistake is buying quantity without front light. A stage full of colourful moving heads and nothing lighting the performers’ faces photographs terribly and reads as unfinished in the room.
Lighting for camera
If any of it is being filmed or streamed, say so at quote stage, because it changes the specification. Cameras need more light than eyes do, they are less forgiving of colour temperature mismatches, and they will find every flicker. LED fixtures run at the wrong refresh rate can strobe badly on camera even though they look perfect in the room. It is a straightforward thing to get right in advance and an impossible one to fix in post.
Do you need a designer or an operator?
For static uplighting set to a colour and left alone, no — we can pre-program it and hand it over. For anything where the lighting has to change during the event, yes.
Lighting designers, board operators, followspot operators and riggers can be added to any booking. A designer is worth it whenever the room has to look like a specific thing rather than merely be lit; an operator is worth it whenever the show has moments. Rigging, power and venues
Lighting has to hang from something. That means truss with ground support, venue rigging points, or floor stands, and each carries load ratings and, in most Los Angeles venues, rules about who is allowed to rig. Outdoor structures additionally need a wind plan — afternoon wind regularly reaches the point where a roof or a tower has to come down.
Power is the other constraint. A large moving-head rig draws considerably more than a domestic circuit, and open sites usually need distribution and often a generator. Tell us the venue at quote stage and we will schedule around its access and its supply rather than discovering both on the day.

Can I rent uplighting without a technician?
Yes. Battery uplights are the most self-service item we rent — we set the colour before they leave, and you place them.
How long does a lighting rig take to build?
A room of uplighting is under an hour. A trussed stage rig with moving heads and control is most of a day, plus programming. Venues with restricted load-in windows drive this more than the rig size does.
Can you match our brand colours?
Yes. Send the colour references and we will set fixtures to match rather than approximating from a name.
Do you supply lighting and sound together?
Yes, along with screens and staging, as one itemised quote.
How far in advance should I book?
Large moving-head packages and control desks move quickly in peak season. Uplighting and smaller packages are much more flexible.
